Why we started
It usually fails from underneath.
Cedarline began after our founder, Evan Alderwick, spent years repairing outdoor projects that had looked fine on the day they were finished. The pattern was almost always the same: the base was rushed, the grading was an afterthought, and the water was never given anywhere sensible to go.
He wanted a small local company that took the unglamorous part seriously — the excavation, the compaction, the slope — and still finished the details a homeowner looks at every single day.
That is still the whole idea. We are not trying to be the biggest landscaping company in Ottawa. We are trying to be the one whose patios are still flat in ten years.
The crew
Four people, and you will meet all of them.
There is no project manager layer here. Evan walks every site, writes every scope, and is on the tools for most of the build. The same three people who start your project are the ones who finish it.
That is partly a values decision and partly a practical one — a crew this size can only run one or two projects at a time, which is exactly why yours does not sit half-finished while we chase the next one.
How we work
Four working principles.
Not a mission statement. These are the four things we would want a neighbour to say about us after we have packed up and left.
Prepare properly
The base gets built in lifts and compacted as we go, whether or not anyone will ever see it. Depth is decided by the soil and the use, not by what fits the budget.
Explain the scope
Preparation is priced separately from finish materials. If something changes mid-project, you see the problem and the options before the number moves.
Protect the property
Access routes get covered, the driveway stays usable where it can, and we keep the neighbours in mind — deliveries, noise and where the bin sits.
Finish cleanly
The site is swept every evening, not just on the last day. The handoff includes the cleanup, a walkthrough and a short note on caring for what we built.
Licensing, insurance and warranty
The paperwork, plainly.
Every number below is a placeholder created for this demonstration site. On a live build, these would be replaced with real, verifiable details, and we would hand over copies on request rather than asking anyone to take our word for it.

We do not claim membership in any trade association, and we do not display award badges we have not earned.
Two-year workmanship warranty
Installed hardscape and landscape work carries a two-year workmanship warranty. Manufacturer warranties on materials are passed through to you where they apply.
Settlement caused by something outside the installation — a new downspout dumping onto the patio, heavy equipment driven across it, a neighbouring excavation — sits outside the warranty, and we will tell you which one you are looking at honestly.
Demo terms On a live project, final warranty terms would be set out in the written contract.
